Description
The Israeli cement company Nesher’s cement bags, which are usually only associated with building, are the canvas that Shpilsher has used for many years and which have become identified with her work. The simple brown sacks, which have printed graphics in Hebrew, English and Arabic, are then covered over by new paintings that correspond with Shplisher’s world. In this piece, it is a tribute to the pop-art artist Andy Warhol and his “soup cans”. In her colorful and seductive way, Shpilsher shows us the culture of consumption, a world of abundant beauty, which ultimately decays and is lost.
