My work process focuses on documenting the past and creating new reality by breaking down materials and putting them together in a different way. My dominant body of work is “Memorial Wreaths”; an ongoing series I began in 2018. Expanding on the technique of collages, each wreath is assembled from unique paper “flowers”, each of them carefully pieced together from sheets of paper taken from handwritten notebooks, and worksheets from my own personal academic studies. I also use my children’s learning materials. The flowers were created with care and precision: some “petals” are laminated, and each piece of paper is chosen specifically. Containing successes and failures, mistakes, and typos, they are all personal and authentic, used to reflect on the many avenues we take in our lives, the things we learn from them and the memories which make us who we are.
