Sarig

Jerry Sarig (b. Haifa) has been a multidisciplinary creator for more than twenty years. Trained as an architect, she owned, designed, and managed her own fashion brand, JERRY, for more than a decade, where artistic expression was always apparent in her designs. However, after 17 years of working in the fashion industry, Sarig decided to embark on a new journey.
Whereas precision guided her work in fashion, her art challenges this conception by using unattached threads in her embroidery and textile work. All of her works are made by hand in an almost meditative process, guided by intuition.
Sarig currently works from her studio in Tel Aviv. Her work has been presented at various exhibitions including at the Israeli Design Week in Taiwan and the Tel Aviv Arts and Design Biennale. Sarig recently attained an MA in Industrial Design at the ‬Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, Jerusalem, and holds a BA in Architecture from the Wizo Academy of Design, Haifa.‬

My artistic process explores the topic of childhood, with my memories and my own early drawings inspiring my craft. The examination of this subject matter in my art is also an exploration of the self, consciously and unconsciously bringing into expression the same imaginary childhood characters, time and again, although in different forms and textures. I use photography and manual embroidery, sometimes independently and sometimes in combination with one another. My works are a visual collage, mixing shapes, drawings, and threads. I have been a multidisciplinary creator for more than twenty years. Trained as an architect, I owned, designed, and managed my own fashion brand, JERRY, for more than a decade, in which my artistic expression was always apparent. However, after 17 years of working in the fashion industry, I decided to embark on a new journey. Whereas precision guided my work in fashion, my art challenges this conception, using unattached threads in my embroidery, together with disfigured faces with disproportional mouths and eyes, which are are all components of pieces that, although apparently imperfect, are presented as aesthetic artifacts. All of my works are made by hand in an almost meditative process, guided by intuition. Since my early days as an artist, I have been fascinated by my own recollections, scratching images in my notebook as they jumped into my mind and transforming them into large embroidered canvases. My characters are ageless, genderless, and fluid, inviting the viewer to stand in the space between memory and embodiment. I also serve a mentor in textile and embroidery workshops I was born in Haifa and currently work from my studio in Tel Aviv. My work has been presented, among other places, at the Israeli Design Week in Taiwan and at the Tel Aviv Arts and Design Biennale. I recently obtained an MA in Industrial Design at the ‬Bezalel Academy‭ of Arts and Design, and hold a BA in Architecture from Wizo Art and Design Academy.
