Ilan Baruch (b. Jerusalem, 1974) is one of Israel’s most prominent figurative painters. Baruch paints in oil colors, employing a figurative realistic style rich in detail. His work is influenced by Orientalism, man’s encounter with his environment, and history. The interaction with the land, sweat, and soil is characteristic of his work. The distinctive feature of Baruch’s paintings lies in the fact that they do not deal with the essence of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, but rather with the people who live in the land and the landscapes that so characterize the biblical Land of Israel.
Baruch studied archaeology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and is fluent in both Arabic and Hebrew. He has held many solo exhibitions, including at the Tel Aviv Museum (2004), the Ramat Gan Museum (2013) and the Israeli Parliament (2022). His works are featured in major public and private collections in Israel and abroad.
